What Is Alien Registration?A federal law requires all foreign nationals aged 14 or older who stay in the U.S. for 30 days or more to register and be fingerprinted. Adults 18 and older must carry proof of registration at all times.As of April 11, 2025, this rule is being enforced. Many people without legal status may now be required to register using a new online form, G-325R.Who Needs to Register?You must register if you:

• Entered the U.S. without inspection, admission, or parole and does not have proof of registration
• Are a Canadian who entered at a land border and didn’t receive an I-94
• Have TPS or DACA but no registration document
• Turned 14 years old while in the U.S. (must register within 30 days)

What If You Are Undocumented?If you haven’t been issued a registration document and haven’t registered, you are required to do so within 30 days of entry.Important: Registering does not give you legal status. It may lead to immigration enforcement.Talk to an immigration lawyer before you register.Who Is Already Registered?You are considered registered if you:

• Are a lawful permanent resident
• Were issued an I-94 or I-94W
• Were paroled into the U.S.
• Were issued a work permit
• Were placed in removal proceedings
• Applied for or received certain immigration benefits and were fingerprinted

Who Is Exempt?

• U.S. citizens
• Visa holders who were already fingerprinted
• A and G visa holders (e.g., diplomats, international representatives)
• People in the U.S. for less than 30 days
• Certain American Indians born in Canada

How to Register

1. Create an online account at: https://myaccount.uscis.gov
2. Submit Form G-325R online
3. Attend a biometrics appointment
4. Wait for the background check
5. Receive proof of registration in your USCIS account

What Form G-325R Asks For:

• Full name and contact information
• Address and immigration history
• Family and criminal history
• Signature under oath

What Counts as Proof of Registration?

• I-94 / I-94W (even if expired)
• I-551 (Green Card)
• I-766 (Work Permit)
• I-862 (Notice to Appear)
• A valid admission or parole stamp in your passport
