Guiding Our Client from Permanent Residence to Citizenship

One of our clients recently received approval for U.S. naturalization (Form N-400) and has been scheduled for an oath ceremony. Our work with this client began years ago when we assisted them with their marriage-based Green Card based on marriage to a U.S. citizen.  We later guided them through removing conditions on their permanent residence.  Given our firm’s approach in preparing thorough applications, our client and his husband were not interviewed for their initial marriage-based green card or for the removal of conditions. This is unusual given the increased scrutiny given to marriage-based green card applications. We attribute the lack of interviews to our firm’s preparation of a thorough and complete packet that clearly satisfies all eligibility requirements.  Please note that the Trump administration has recently announced that all marriage-based applicants for permanent residence will be interviewed.

Our immigration attorney, Pratibha Agarwal, accompanied the client to their naturalization interview to provide attorney representation—this was the first interview the client was required to attend in his immigration process. The client has now successfully passed the civics exam and the English reading and writing exam.  Although the officer asked for a few additional documents (not typically required) at the naturalization interview, Agarwal Law Group immediately drafted a response and worked with the client to complete an online submission of the additional materials.  The approval was issued the following day.  Now the client is in line for his oath ceremony, the final step in becoming a U.S. citizen. Once the oath is administered, they will officially gain all rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizenship.

U.S. citizenship offers important benefits, including the right to vote, access to a U.S. passport, and the ability to petition for family members. During the naturalization process, our client met all key requirements, including continuous residence, good moral character, and knowledge of U.S. history and government. Their case shows the value of preparation and legal guidance at every step.

The path from Green Card to naturalization can be complex. Each stage, obtaining a Green Card, removing conditions, and applying for naturalization, requires careful preparation, accurate documentation, and timely responses to USCIS requests. Having experienced legal guidance, including support during the interview, helps applicants navigate these steps efficiently and with support from someone deeply experienced in immigration.

We are beyond grateful to have been on this journey from start to finish.  We congratulate our client on this achievement and continue to help others with their immigration goals.
